Europe must learn how to live with its changing climate at the same time as trying to halt change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions, says the European Environment Agency (EEA). A new report from the EEA, Impacts of Europe's changing climate, says changes already under way probably exceed all natural climate variation for 1,000 years.

Crops grown for energy production could be making a far more significant contribution to the UK?s drive to cut greenhouse gas emissions, says the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. Limited government support and a focus on ill-fated power station-sized schemes is holding back the sector, the Commission argues.

Dramatic pictures of flooding in the Cornish village of Boscastle have put climate change back onto the news agenda. Commenting on the devastation, The Independent noted: "While the popular conception of global warming is of increased heat, it is increased precipitation that may be of much more consequence for Britain.?"
A group set up to re-think how new homes are built is calling for a national Code for Sustainable Building. The Sustainable Buildings Task Group says a code would raise energy efficiency standards - and it says the government should lead the way with higher standards for public sector buildings.
