  • Europe must learn how to live with its changing climate at the same time as trying to halt change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions, says the European Environment Agency (EEA). A new report from the EEA, Impacts of Europe's changing climate, says changes already under way probably exceed all natural climate variation for 1,000 years.

  • Crops grown for energy production could be making a far more significant contribution to the UK?s drive to cut greenhouse gas emissions, says the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. Limited government support and a focus on ill-fated  power station-sized schemes is holding back the sector, the Commission argues.

  • Dramatic pictures of flooding in the Cornish village of Boscastle have put climate change back onto the news agenda. Commenting on the devastation, The Independent noted: "While the popular conception of global warming is of increased heat, it is increased precipitation that may be of much more consequence for Britain.?"
  • A group set up to re-think how new homes are built is calling for a national Code for Sustainable Building. The Sustainable Buildings Task Group says a code would raise energy efficiency standards - and it says the government should lead the way with higher standards for public sector buildings.
