PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCILLORS CONSIDER CLIMATE CHANGE
A staggering 30 County Councillors attended a Climate Change workshop at County Hall, Haverfordwest on Monday 6th November. Experts from the Energy Saving Trust shared their knowledge with our local councillors at an in-house training session organised by the West Wales ECO Centre.
Local councillors heard presentations about the impact climate change will have globally and locally, and explored the ways in which they could make a difference. Ideas included improving the public transport network in Pembrokeshire, increasing the support available for local farmers to produce energy crops and encouraging the promotion of renewable energy technology, such as co-operatives to develop wind turbines in small communities.
Steve Keating, Pembrokeshire County Council?s Energy Manger also delivered a fascinating presentation on the excellent work already being done within Council-owned buildings to reduce energy consumption and increase energy supply from renewable sources.
?Pembrokeshire County Council is already doing some good work towards improving its sustainable energy credentials and I am very pleased with the enthusiasm shown by a number of County Councillors at the workshop today?, said Kerry Lewis from West Wales ECO Centre. ?However, I think all have agreed that there is more to be done. One particular issue which was raised was fuel poverty in the County and I look forward to working with the Council and other organisations to develop an Action Plan which will help in delivering affordable warmth to all in Pembrokeshire.?
