LOCAL ENERGY SUPPORT PROGRAMME

" The Energy White Paper has set the UK a target of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2050 (based on 1990 levels) and energy efficiency will be the main route to achieving this. Local authorities are vital in helping deliver real change on the ground "
- Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive, Energy Saving Trust.

The Local Energy Support Service is a nationwide initiative funded by the Energy Saving Trust. The North, Mid and West Wales Local Energy Support Team was created in December 2006 and is based at the West Wales Eco Centre in Newport, Pembrokeshire.  The main objective of the programme is to provide support and assistance to local authorities and housing associations to develop practical partnerships which increase the number of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in public and private sector households.

The Local Energy Support Service provides a valuable resource offering constructive support to help local authorities, housing associations and others with domestic housing responsibilities address the issues related to fuel poverty, property improvements, HECA (Home Energy Conservation Act) reporting, sustainability and planning issues. Key elements to the Local Energy Support Programme are collecting information on local activities, building partnerships, influencing strategic documents and decisions, raising awareness amongst Assembly Members and seeking-out funding opportunities.
