Launch Event 1st December Lawrenny Village Hall

This is an exciting new project, part funded by the Sustainable Development Fund managed by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The People's Power Station (PPS) is to be a three-year project to set up Community Energy Supply Companies (ESCOs) and install community renewable energy technologies in up to four communities within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. To achieve this outcome the project will identify specific communities and then work with community groups to  encourage and facilitate their transition towards more sustainable futures, ensuring that they are better prepared for the impacts that climate change and future energy supply issues will present to them.

This transition, although unique to the individual demands of each participating community, will follow a common theme in each of those area's benefiting from the proposed programme.

The People's Power Station's practical and inclusive approach will encompass the following within each specified community:

Implementation of community renewable energy installations. This is the overall goal of the PPS; a viable and appropriate scale installation that provides a direct benefit to the communities that take part. In delivering this primary outcome, the project will also provide as a matter of course:

a. Awareness raising and education: focussed community talks, functions, events
    i. Identifying problems and solutions: public debates and seminars
ii. Talks: external and WWEC speakers

b. Benchmarking: community ecological foot-printing (water, carbon and energy)  using REAP Petite from the SIE, or some other appropriate modelling software
    i. Measurement: using current cost metres and uploading information to online database where possible
ii. Completing the picture: monitoring of already installed renewables
iii. Setting up blogs for discussion on energy saving, etc.
iv. Providing basic energy and energy efficiency training and current cost equipment

c. Solutions: community-wide renewable energy assessment and implementation
    i. Energy efficiency: reducing energy demand at source through assistance and advice on insulation and efficient appliances
ii.Feasibility study: providing expertise and grant assistance for the study of appropriate renewable energy measures - grant assistance will come as a result of securing monies from other funding bodies, such as the Big Lottery Fund, Welsh Assembly Government, Local Authorities and utilities.
iii. Community control: helping communities set up their own Energy Supply Companies (ESCOs)

The project hasits own website where we will be recording progress and implementing many new tools to help communities in Wales become part of the People's Power Station.
