EDUCATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE WALES

Our Education Team offers presentations and practical workshops that focus on energy use and climate change. These are available for all ages and abilities.

Climate Change Wales is our interactive, bilingual resource covering the impacts, and mitigations for climate change in Wales, but contains many resources which are relevant to students across the UK.  The web site has areas designed and written by specialists covering the all the key stages of the National Curriculum in including the foundation phase.

We've been developing the content and function of the site over 2007 culminating in our official launch in December by Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing.

The site is designed to be added to and the start of the year seemed a good time to highlight some of the materials which have been recently gone up.

Finished at the end of December and tucked away in Key Stage 1 (soon to be Foundation) linked to the Energy Saving object is an animated story book of Elgan and Eva two Welsh Elephants with enormous footprints.  The story is created to be read by an adult to a group of children.  Both English and Welsh versions were written by Rhianydd James of Ysgol Brynconin. Each page of the story is linked to an energy saving tips.

First new content of the year goes to Rob Goodsell with a comprehensive set of activities on Wind, Biomass, and Solar Power in the Renewable Energy section in KS2.  Please tell us about activities you?ve found successful with your groups that you would like to see included.

The site has two message boards for students, the Message Tree for Primary aged children and the Graffiti Wall for KS3.  These areas are both fully moderated.  Let your class share what they've been up to, when looking at Climate Change and Sustainability with other pupils in Wales.

If you haven't seen the content in the KS3 Technology area written by Ann MacGarry of CAT, I'd recommend a look.

Content being written this term includes two new interactive classrooms for KS3, PSE and Science.  Nuclear and Marine power are going to be added to the content in KS4 along with material on Ecological foot printing compared to carbon foot printing.

We're also in the process of producing a film covering Climate Change, Electricity Generation, Transport, Housing, and Agriculture, which should be out by May.
