ReFarm: Renewable Energy on Farms

Farmers and landowners are ideally placed to invest and benefit from renewable energy systems, which can help diversify incomes and reduce energy bills, as well as reduce environmental impacts and reliance on fossil fuels. However, with such a range of technologies and issues to think about, knowing where to start and working out the most suitable systems for your individual needs is a difficult process.

In order to aid and encourage farmers and landowners around Pembrokeshire/near the Pembrokeshire National Park explore the possibilities of renewable energy systems, Eco Centre Wales is currently offering  free, independent and impartial assessments of their property for suitability of a range of technologies. Through funding from the Sustainable Development Fund, landowners can benefit from a pre-feasibility study carried out by a renewable energy expert from Eco Centre Wales.

The assessment will consist of a site visit and written report, including:

  • A consideration of suitability of a range of renewable energy options
  • A desktop study of likely energy production
  • An indication of likely obstacles to any project, including planning issues
  • An energy assessment of the property
  • Next steps to take the project further to a full feasibility study, including on-going support and contacts if clients’ wish to continue

If you are a farmer or landowner who would like to learn more about how you can benefit from renewable energy systems, or would like to arrange for a free assessment, contact Duncan Richmond at Eco Centre Wales on 01239 821909, or email duncan@ecocentre.org.uk.
