environment?
Local company TYF ltd have signed up to the 1% For the Planet scheme. They have named the ECO Centre as the beneficiaries of their 1%. Details of the scheme are on the 1% website, but in a nutshell businesses pledge 1% of their sales revenue (not profits) to an environmental charity. We are delighted that TYF have chosen us. TYF are based in St David's, where the ECO Centre is working with the Eco City Group to establish the UK's first carbon neutral city. This project is part of our Energy for Tomorrow programme.
It is a simple idea, but should not be underestimated for all that. Many commercial organisations have a desire to put something back into the environment, especially where that environment supports their business. And many environmental charities are struggling to find the funds required to support their aims and objectives and their activities. 1% for the planet links businesses with charities so that businesses are, in a real sense, doing something. But that 'something' is being done by the experts. 1% is a small commitment and one that most businesses are able to make happily. But a few thousand pounds can make all the difference, especially to an organisation like the ECO Centre. The money that comes from TYF will be used as part of a package of funds to create more funds. We can use such a sum as totally legitimate match-funding, so that we can raise the costs of running our projects.
In this case, we are trying to funds to support our Climate Change Education programme, which is part of our Education Programme.
We hope this idea catches on. The 1% organisation is an American one, but they list UK charities as registered beneficiaries. If you run a business and want to do more the environment, we would urge you to consider the value of the 1% scheme. Sure, I'd like to encourage you to donate to us, but there may be another charity that you would like to support. In our experience it should be possible to contact 1% to arrange for this to happen. But if you like the sound of our work and would like to support us please let us know.
We would like to thank Andy and Julian and everyone at TYF for their support through this scheme.![]()
